Flags of Remembrance
For years, Faith Baptist Church has planted nearly 3,000 American flags on our front lawn the week before September 11. One for every life lost that day. Last year, something happened that changed the event: neighbors who weren’t members of our church stopped by and asked if they could plant a flag for a loved one killed on 9/11. We said yes. This year, we’re saying yes to the whole community.
On Saturday, September 5, from 1:00–3:00 PM, you’re invited to come plant a flag in memory of someone whose life, service, or sacrifice should not be forgotten. While those lost on September 11, 2001 will remain the primary focus of the memorial, there will also be space to honor others who hold a meaningful place in your heart. Guests may bring a physical or digital photograph to be included in a memorial video shown the following morning, or tie a ribbon bearing a loved one’s name to a flag. There is no cost to participate, and the field will remain standing through September 11.
