A Letter from Pastor Skelly

Dear Faith Family,

I bring you this greeting from my office here at the church on a Saturday afternoon. I spent some extra time today thinking of you and praying for you. I sat for a long while in the church auditorium envisioning your faces in your usual spots.

I miss you. I miss church. I can’t wait until we see each other again.

I am praying for each of you and your families. Thank you for sharing your specific requests with me each day. Not only have they enabled me to pray more intelligently for you, but they have also given me fresh details and insights into your lives and struggles. Please know that we are in this together! Here is a verse that has been meaningful to me in recent days:

For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. (Colossians 2:5)

What a blessing that we can at least meet virtually! I am so much looking forward to our “gathering” tomorrow morning at 8:45am for our morning service. You’ll enjoy the music, and I hope that you’ll come with an expectant heart to hear a message from God’s Word.

I will be bringing a message entitled, “Unprecedented Opportunities.” If you’d like to get a head start, take some time to reach Joshua chapters 3 and 4. Among other lessons, we will learn four essential lessons about influencing our children in these days of uncertainty and complexity.

Would you take a few minutes tonight or tomorrow morning to prepare for the service in the following ways?

    1. Pray that God would speak to your heart.
    2. Be on time! (We can’t use I95 traffic as an excuse anymore!)
    3. Determine to eliminate distractions. Gather as you would for any other service; i.e., with an expectant spirit in a distraction-free setting.
    4. INVITE someone to church! These are days when people will “attend” church who never would have done so before! Let’s seize the moment. Would you consider doing one or more of the following?
      • TAG some friends on social media and invite them to the service. Don’t assume that your post will be seen by all of your friends unless you tag specifically the ones you want to see the post.
      • SHARE the post as soon as we go live tomorrow.
      • EMAIL a few friends and include the link to our service.
      • Host a WATCH party on your own FB page.
      • Be sure to COMMENT that you’re in attendance and let us know how many are with you.
  1. Discuss the message afterward with your family. We are not able to conduct an invitation for these online services, but that does not exempt us from making careful, intentional, and personal application to our lives. Fertilize that conversation with your family.

I love you all! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives.

Sincerely,

Pastor

Remember, you can be part of our services on our Facebook Page and faithva.org/live.

UPDATED: March 14, 7pm

In order to limit the physical contact among small children and the transfer of any germs by toys or other common items, there will be no Nursery for either service on Sunday, March 15. Families that attend are welcome to bring small children into the Auditorium or watch a simulcast of the service in the Fellowship Hall. If your children are disruptive during the service, feel free to exit the Auditorium to the Fellowship Hall.

Children’s Church (age 4-Grade 2) will meet in Room 102. Grades 3 and up will remain with their parents in the Auditorium.

No coffee will be served.

An enhanced livestream of the 10:30am will be available on our Facebook Page and faithva.org/live.

March 13, 2:30pm

Changes for this Weekend

We have rescheduled our Scripture Assembly Project to Sunday, August 23. Pastor Al Stone and the team from Bearing Precious Seed have already confirmed these dates and will be with us for the project.

We will have two, one-hour services on Sunday morning at 8:30 and 10:30. If you normally attend the later service, consider coming to the 8:30am service this week, as we are trying to have the services as evenly-attended as possible. If the governor issues restrictions on large gatherings before Sunday, we will abide by those and limit the number of people that can enter the Auditorium.

Nursery, Children’s Church, and Junior Church will be in place for both services in their normal locations. However, Grades 3 and up will remain with their parents in the Auditorium while Grades 1 and 2 will go to Children’s Church in the Band Room Room 102.

There will be no 9:30am classes for children or adults on Sunday. And as our 5pm service was already cancelled, we will not meet in the evening.

The 10:30am service will be broadcasted to our Facebook Page and faithva.org/live.

Other Preventative Measures

-The greeting time during services is suspended.

-Rather than pass the offering plate during services we will have offering plates available as you leave the Auditorium. Remember, it’s easier (and more sanitary!) to give online.

-Through recent, enhanced cleaning processes, we will continue to keep our buildings and campus clean. Read a letter from Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Murphy.

What do you need to do?

-Don’t live in fear! God is in control of all things and it is in that power and faithfulness that we can find peace and rest.

-Follow common-sense precautions: wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, don’t touch your face, and cough in your elbow. If you’re showing symptoms that are common with the coronavirus (a fever with coughing and shortness of breath), refrain from contact with others and, if necessary, seek medical attention.

-If you normally attend the later service, but will come to the 8:30am service this week, let us know and include the number of people in your family.

-If you are sick, not feeling well, or are particularly vulnerable to sickness, stay home and watch the 10:30am service on our Facebook Page or faithva.org/live.

-If you are unable to attend any of our gatherings due to sickness, please continue to honor the Lord in your giving by making your financial contributions via our app or giving page, or by mailing your tithes and offerings into the church office.

-Finally, trust the Lord. Pray for the sick. Look for opportunities to share the gospel with others.

Let’s pray for all those affected by COVID-19 and ask God for protection for our church family and campus.
